    Product FAQ

    These are product-level FAQs to help you get started with CloudFuzion.

    How do I update my EnFuzion Control Root license?

    After you receive an EnFuzion license file for your Control Root, please make sure that the license string is exactly 80 characters long, without CR or LF at the end. Sometimes the license file may become corrupted when emailed, when extra LF, CR and special characters are added to the end of the license. Please inspect the license string and make sure to remove any additional characters.

    Follow the steps below to install the new production license:

    – Rename the file enflicense.txt. It MUST be called this name EXACTLY;
    – Copy the file enflicense.txt to the Control Root computer, to the \Config subdirectory under your EnFuzion installation directory. Overwrite the previous license file with the same name;
    – Using Task Manager, restart the enfStarterSvc service on the Control Root computer if you are using EnFuzion version 16.0 and later. If you are using earlier versions of EnFuzion, restart the EnFuzion Root Service from the Windows Program Start menu.

    Please contact support@axceleon.com if you have any questions on how to update the software license on your cluster.

    What kind of applications may be parallelized and run on the cloud using CloudFuzion?

    If you have run your application in parallel with EnFuzion on one computer or on many computers that are in an on-site computer cluster, then it is possible to run it on the cloud with CloudFuzion. CloudFuzion uses largely compatible run files as EnFuzion.

    We are here to help. Contact us at support@www.axceleon.com so we can help you with further assessments.

    How does CloudFuzion ensure data security?

    Encrypted secure data transfer between the user premises and the cloud is accomplished by using HTTPS between the CloudFuzion Control Root instance and the Job submission machines at user premises. CloudFuzion Control Root instance uses Apache to implement HTTPS server functionality. You will also need to install an SSL certificate on the Control Root instance to make the connection fully secure.

    Once your data has been uploaded to the cloud, the various data security mechanism provided by the cloud platform provider, e.g., Amazon, will be used to keep them safe.

    What is the easiest way for me to try out CloudFuzion?

    Before you try running any applications on the cloud, you should first familiarize yourself with running applications in parallel using EnFuzion. Once you are comfortable with the concepts and operations of EnFuzion, then we suggest you use AWS as the starting point, instead other clouds, because CloudFuzion is the most customized for use with AWS. This means that it is the easiest place to start.

    Before starting with CloudFuzion, we suggest that you learn as much as you can about AWS concepts including VPC, instances types and pricing. Familiarity with these topics are necessary for setting up and configuring CloudFuzion on AWS.

    What kind of software licenses do I need to run a third-party application on the Cloud?

    You will need to separately secure a license for the third party software that you will run on the cloud from the vendor of the software. Axceleon provides the software license for the CloudFuzion software only.

    How many cloud instances should I reserve on the cloud?

    1 or 0. CloudFuzion implements a fully on-demand cluster which requires no fixed assets. For quick start and ease of use, you may choose to have one reserved instance to run the Control Root and the instance management functions, but the compute node instances can be dynamically allocated by CloudFuzion only when there are jobs to run, and they are automatically terminated once the jobs are done. This helps keep your operating cost at a minimum.

    What’s the cost of running a computer cluster on AWS?

    It depends on your workload, choice of hardware and storage requirements. You can reference the empirical data that you have obtained from running similar applications on your on-site cluster, and then make estimates of their cost on AWS for equivalent functionalities.The

    How do I ensure the security of my cluster in the cloud?

    Security is of the utmost concern for all cloud platforms. Taking AWS as an example, there are many ways to secure a cluster. Please consult the AWS documentation on Virtual Private Cloud, Security Groups and Identity and Access Management to begin familiarize yourself with the available security measures.

    How long does it take to set up a CloudFuzion cluster on AWS?

    It depends on your familiarity with AWS and the operations of an EnFuzion-based cluster. It is very helpful to have general working knowledge of AWS and EnFuzion. To gain some practical knowledge of AWS, we suggest you obtain an AWS account and experiment with setting up a VPC and launch an instance in it. The equally important first step is to learn how to use EnFuzion on a local cluster, or even a single local computer.

    How do I send my diagnostic files to Axceleon?

    We often ask you to send your diagnostic files in the course of technical support.  These diagnostic files may be very big, so we suggest you use ftp to send these files.
